The Transformative Power of Breathwork

An article by Lionsgate Events

A Practice as Old as Time

From “breathwork recipes” trending online to ancient yogic practices, intentional breathing is having a renaissance.
But this is not a new fad, breathwork draws on centuries-old traditions such as Pranayama from India and Qigong from China,
which have long recognised the breath as a bridge between body, mind, and spirit.

Just one slow, deep inhalation can create an instant shift, calming the mind and nourishing the body with oxygen. Imagine what happens when you practice this intentionally for an hour: your body awakens, your energy rises, and your consciousness expands.

Breathe Into Transformation: A Journey Back to Heart

In a world that’s constantly “on,” finding stillness can feel like a luxury. But what if transformation didn’t require more doing… only breathing?

At Lionsgate Events, we offer guided Breathwork sessions using the powerful Breath of Bliss Method. This heart-opening, somatic practice helps you reconnect with your body, release old emotional patterns, and experience profound states of clarity, peace, and joy.

This isn’t just breathing, it’s a ceremony of awakening.

What Makes This Practice Different

Unlike other forms of Breathwork, the Breath of Bliss Method is a gentle yet powerful conscious connected breath that allows your
nervous system to soften, your heart to open, and your intuition to guide you home.

This method invites you to:

Release stored tension and emotional blockages

Reconnect with your truth and inner guidance

Reclaim your joy, freedom, and life force

Set against the ancient healing lands of Heartwood Farm Byron Bay, each session becomes a sacred experience
where nature holds you, allowing real transformation to unfold.

This journey is perfect for anyone who is:

Seeking clarity and inner calm

Craving deep rest and self-connection

Ready to let go of what no longer serves them

Curious about the power of Breathwork in a safe, supportive environment

No prior experience is necessary. All you need is your breath, and a willingness to receive.

Let the transformation begin. Reserve your spot for an upcoming event

What is Breathwork

Breathwork is the intentional control of inhalation and exhalation to influence physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual states. Unlike simple mindful breathing (which focuses on observing the breath), breathwork invites us to guide the breath, through the diaphragm,
mouth or nose, to access altered states of awareness and deep healing.

Breathwork can be calming or energising, depending on the technique:

Calming: box breathing, coherent breathing, alternate nostril breathing, these slow the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and increase clarity.

Energising: fire breath and lion’s breath activate the body, boost energy, and heighten presence.

How Breathwork Affects the Body

Deep, rhythmic breathing stimulates the vagus nerve, activating the parasympathetic nervous system, our “rest and digest” state.
This calms the sympathetic nervous system, lowers stress hormones, and increases emotional regulation.

The benefits include:

Improved lung function and oxygenation

Lower heart rate and blood pressure

Greater mental clarity and emotional balance

Improved immune function and resilience to stress

Nasal breathing, in particular, filters and warms the air, releases nitric oxide, and deepens relaxation.
By learning to consciously breathe, we can shift our state at any moment.

The Science Backs It

Recent meta-analyses of clinical research show that deliberate breathwork can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms.
Slow breathing (5–6 breaths per minute) has been shown to increase heart rate variability, a key marker of emotional resilience and cardiovascular health.

Fast, controlled breathwork can also positively stimulate the stress response short-term, building psychological resilience
much like physical exercise strengthens the body.

Emotional Healing Through the Breath

The breath does more than regulate biology, it can unlock what’s stored deep within us.

Imagine a room in your house that’s been locked for years. Breathwork opens the doors and windows, letting light and air flow through again. As the dust stirs, old boxes, unprocessed emotions, may surface. And when they do, we finally get to release them.

During sessions, people may experience tears, laughter, bliss, or profound stillness. The breath invites us to meet and move
through whatever is ready to be released, without needing to analyse it.

This is why breathwork is often described as a doorway to transformation.

Our Next Workshops

The breath is also a powerful tool for transforming the subconscious mind. Many of our core beliefs are formed between ages 0–7,
|stored beneath the surface and quietly shaping our reality.

Through breathwork, we bypass the busy conscious mind and access the deeper layers where these beliefs live. Here, healing and reprogramming can begin.

“Breathwork taught me so much about my own body - how I see it, accept it, and love it. Nothing needed to change. I realised I was whole all along.”

Shifting Core Beliefs Through Awareness

One of the most beautiful aspects of breathwork is its simplicity. It doesn’t require expensive equipment or complex techniques. Whether practiced during a retreat or in a quiet moment at home, a few deep, conscious breaths can:

Lower stress and anxiety

Bring you into the present moment

Create space for joy, connection and clarity

This is why breathwork is at the heart of Lionsgate Retreats and Workshops, because true transformation begins
with something as simple, and profound, as your own breath.
